Liu Daizong

East Asia Director, the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP) 

Mr. Liu Daizong is currently the East Asia Director of the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP). From 2015 to 2023, he served as Director of the Sustainable Cities Department and Communications Director at the World Resources Institute (WRI) China. Mr. Liu has over 20 years of working experience in Urban Sustainable Development Strategy, Planning and Design, Sustainable Transportation Development Policy, Planning and Design. In 2022, Mr. Daizong Liu was hired as a visiting professor at the School of Architecture and Landscape of Peking University. In addition, he was also invited to serve as the founding member of the United Nations Consultative Transportation Committee of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), the chair of the future transportation and sustainable development of the World Transportation Conference (WTC),  Shared Mobility Expert for Councilors’ Office of the State Council, TOD Expert for the World Bank, Independent Board Member of Chongqing City Transportation Development & Investment Group Co. , Member of Expert Committee at the Beijing Municipal Commission of Transport and distinguished expert for the HOME Program by CAST, Member of the China Urban Transportation Planning Committee. In 2020, his project “the Chilean new energy bus international bidding procurement and financing model innovation” won the first Global Green Finance Award issued by the International Finance Forum. Mr. Liu is a renowned public speaker on sustainable city issues. In 2017, Mr. Liu was invited by Yixi (Top Chinese Ted-talk style speech platform) to give a talk on Street for All. His speech won top 15 most popular talks in 2017 and more than 5,000,000 video views. In 2014, Mr. Liu established a non-profit social media platform with WeChat and Weibo public accounts named SustainableCity, and has developed it as the largest We Media in the field of sustainable development and transportation in China. He obtained Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from National University of Singapore, and Bachelor’s degree in Transportation Engineering from Southeast University in China.
