Zheng Hongfeng, graduated with a master degree in business administration at University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), is the founder and CEO of VariFlight. As an accredited expert in Civil Aviation Data Center of the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), he has overall responsibility for the company’s strategic planning and operations.
Mr. Zheng started his civil aviation career in 1996 and created CARNOC.com (Civil Aviation Resource Net of China) in 1999, which has been the largest and most comprehensive civil aviation information platform in China since then.
The rapid growth of civil aviation has been accompanied by increasingly severe flight delays. Mr. Zheng was keen to grasp the demand of passengers for “time” and established VariFlight in 2005. Starting from researches on delay-related flight status data, VariFlight gradually developed professional data processing and algorithm capabilities, and pioneered the commercial operation of flight status in China.
The year of 2010 saw the coming of the mobile Internet era and a marked increase in demand of passengers for more real-time information services. Then the VariFlight App was launched and achieved 1 million downloads in less than one year. VariFlight App had reached 180 million downloads in 2018. Meanwhile, direct access to passengers and study of user needs creates more dimensional data on air travel scenarios. On one hand, leveraging real researches and feedbacks on passenger demands, VariFlight APP provides industrial service evaluation and data monitoring. On the other hand, it has empowered ecosystems covering OTAs, logistics, car rental, finance and insurance with industry data solutions. At present, VariFlight APP has served more than 1,000 partners globally, with over 85% market shares of aviation data in China.
In 2015, Zheng Hongfeng led his team to complete the construction of the first Airport Collaborative Decision Making (A-CDM) system in Kunming Airport. Currently, the company provides digital application services centered on A-CDM and GMAN to over 100 aviation entities nationally, covering 60% of mega airports with annual passenger throughput over 10 million. Mr. Zheng has also promoted the first A-CDM industry standard in China, which has officially passed the expert review in August 2021.
